Why go to Counseling?

People come to counseling for many reasons

They come because they are anxious, depressed, lonely or struggling in their relationships. They come because they have some kind of addiction, eating disorder or mental health problem. Often they come simply because they feel stuck in their life and want to make changes but do not know how.

Counseling creates a safe environment

Where people can explore their belief systems and try to understand their behaviors. Often people are interpreting current situations based on experiences they have had in the past. Many people operate from an automatic response and end up feeling stuck and powerless as a result. Counseling gives people the insight to understand their behaviors and the tools to make changes.

My specialty is treating addiction

Addiction counseling addresses the symptoms of drug and alcohol addiction and related areas of impaired functioning and the content and structure of the client’s ongoing recovery program. This model of addiction counseling is a time-limited approach that focuses on behavioral change, 12-step ideology and tools for recovery, and self-help participation.

The primary goal of addiction counseling

To help the client achieve and maintain abstinence from addictive chemicals and behaviors. The secondary goal is to help the client recover from the damage the addiction has done to the client’s life.
