What Does Crisis Intervention Provide?
The goal of crisis intervention is to reduce the intensity of the situation. An interventionist is specially trained to provide the support that’s needed to de-escalate the situation. During the crisis, the interventionist or mobile crisis team will talk to the individual and slowly help them calm down, ideally returning to the state they were in before the crisis began. The interventionist will also share healthy coping strategies and highlight ineffective coping strategies like isolation, withdrawal, and substance use. Through talk support and learning new coping strategies, crisis intervention will help the individual recover from the crisis and prevent long-term issues.
When is Crisis Intervention Needed?
Crisis Intervention is available for individuals or families feeling overwhelmed by their current situation. Once they feel like they’ve exhausted all of their skills for coping, crisis intervention is here to help. A number of situations may require crisis services, including:
