ABOUT THE TRAINING:

How and where women access recovery, and how professionals and treatment programs support women in or seeking recovery is changing rather rapidly. The pandemic increased innovation in the self-help and recovery space and opened new options and ways for women to engage with recovery supports and there has been a parallel movement towards more fluid and adaptive treatment approaches. Supporting women to design individualized recovery plans invites us all to rethink traditional approaches and demands that we incorporate new ways of thinking about women and how we meet them in recovery spaces. While these conversations are sometimes difficult, they are essential. This group discussion, facilitated by recovery professionals and thought leaders (many in recovery themselves) is a starting point for future dialogue.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Identify and articulate the diverse recovery support needs of women, recognizing the intersecting dimensions of identity and how they impact
  2. Analyze the stages of change theory within the context of women’s recovery journeys, emphasizing the importance of meeting women at their current stage of readiness.
  3. Evaluate strategies to make recovery services more accessible for women (including financially).
  4. Examine approaches that foster empowerment and self-efficacy in women’s recovery processes and support them to create and implement their own patchworks of recovery.
  5. Discuss easy to implement practices that help create trauma-informed and nurturing environments in recovery spaces within and outside of formal treatment spaces.
