ABOUT THE TRAINING:
During this presentation, Drew Horowitz, MA, LADC, LPCC, CIP and Ashwin V. George, MD will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of how addictive substances alter the brain and the challenges encountered when intervening and exploring solutions to managing chronic pain. This presentation will focus on key concepts in balancing chronic pain management in the addictive brain. Participants will learn how to compassionately engage with clients, recognize ineffective behaviors, and will guide clinicians on modalities and understanding to treat chronic pain with clients embarking into substance use recovery. Through anecdotes, best practices and experiential activities, participants will establish a base of knowledge on how to recommend treatment for substance use disordered clients struggling with chronic pain, how to practice a biological approach of compassion with clients and gain and understanding of alternative methods to tackle chronic pain and still treat addiction. Attendees will benefit with a stronger tool set and education on research to treatments in order to aid clients into managing their pain and embark on a successful life in recovery.
OBJECTIVES:
– Participants will understand the physiological activity of an addictive brain, focusing on the research specifically related to chronic pain.
– Participants will be able to recognize debilitating behaviors that are significant in recognizing addictive tendencies when also treating pain.
– Participants will explore the impact of science and behavioral health as a powerful combination towards healing.
– Participants will be able to develop communication based on proven research successful methodologies for intervening with clients with chronic pain. – Participants will be educated on MAT solutions and how they can aid in developing a safe recovery lifestyle.
ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:
Drew Horowitz, MA, LADC, LPCC, CIP is a nationally known and well recognized clinical interventionist and therapist. Drew Horowitz brings a vast range of expertise working with and overseeing clinical teams in the behavioral health field. With over a decade of experience, he has worked with a multitude of populations providing drug & alcohol detoxification, clinical case management, individual therapy, continuing care coordination, intensive outpatient services, consultation, intervention, coaching, and mental health counseling.
Ashwin V. George, MD is a triple-board-certified in internal medicine, palliative care, and addiction medicine. Dr. George graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, completed a surgical internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at the Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York and underwent his internal medicine residency at Seton Hall University’s Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey. As a Board-Certified Addiction Medicine specialist, Dr. George provides treatment for opioid dependence, heroin addiction, alcohol, benzodiazepines, and methamphetamine dependence.
